this man at the creek and the police chief just told me a short time ago, they will be back out here and searchers will later on this morning at first light continue that search but for now the search has been called off. th are looking for a suspected drunk driver who jumped into the water. police have been searching the creek and authorities have been using a boat to look for the man but so far no sight of him. the police chief said they tried to make a dui stop on the man's car. the man got out of the car but during the field sobriety test he took off into the creek. he jumped a fence and jumped into the water and they did try to get him to encourage him to come back to shore. >> we tried to encourage him to come back and he swam away from the officers and he couldn't anymore... >> reporter: authorities will be coming back out here around 7:00 a.m. this morning and again they will be searching the waterways and southering areas and -- surrounding areas and if need be, if those efforts are coming up short, they will call on a dive team to see if this man's body is under water

. these are pictures out at the scene where you can see crews are still there. the fire started a couple of hours on copperfield avenue near the bart station. now some units on both floors of the building were gutted. woman one said she saw -- one woman said she saw fire and firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the other units and fortunately nobody was hurt. one woman said the fire was set intentionally and the head of the fire department will ultimately determine the cause. >>> allie rasmus joins us from oakland with more on the investigation into how another fire started in an appliance building. >> reporter: it was firefighters from oakland 29 who responded to this fire and they were already pretty familiar with the building because it was the same spot they put out another fire in the last four months. >> reporter: the building that burned used to be an plaints who -- appliance shop and they got a report of a fire coming from inside the building the battalion chief said there are signs squatters had been living in the vacant building. >> the fire was unde

past the coliseum and let's look at the east shore freeway as you make your way westbound towards the mcarthur maze, no problems to report but we have a little bit of back up towards the bay bridge, those metering lights should be going on soon, let's go back to the desk. >>> we have news coming in from san jose. a burglary call led police to a marijuana grow house. jeanine has more on what police found there. good morning, jeanine. >> reporter: we were able to go inside this house in east san jose and we overcome with the smell of marijuana, it was wall to wall plants inside and there was no furniture inside and police tell us no people lived here. they found 300 or vested marijuana -- half vetted marijuana plants and a neighbor called saying the home was being burglarized. when officers arrived they found all the plants as well as a sophisticated grow system. >> they had a light system, and elect calling that -- electrical that was beyond anything i have seen in my experience for these indoor grows. everything was wall to wall marijuana plants and it was a pretty big one. >> rep

morning, rosemary. here's a look at traffic through 880. the headlights are southbound as you make your way toward the hayward area. up next we have a look at the east shore freeway. the headlights you see are folks heading westbound on to the mccarthur maze and to the bay bridge toll plaza where we are starting to see backup. i'll have an update in a couple minutes. let's head back to the desk. >>> we begin with our developing story out of japan. there was another 5.0 aftershock just about an hour ago. the main earthquake registered a magnitude 7.3. it was off the coast of japan. that is where last years deadly quake and tsunami hit. there is new video from tokyo although the city is 267 southwest from the epicenter. you can see high-rise buildings swaying there. the quake rattled many nerves of course. one quake reported a three foot high tsunami but no large waves. the tsunami warning has been lifted. rail service was temporarily stopped for safety checks. >>> time now 6:02. a lot of questions right now after a man fell 30 feet during last nights raiders game. ktvu christien kafton i

the desk. >>> time now 6:01. repair crews and other crews are still at the scene of that big machine shop fire that happened yesterday. lorraine blanco is at cnh enterprises right now. firefighters are looking out for flairups out there. >> reporter: they are babysitting the smoke this morning. it's smoldering in the center of the building. that's what we are told this morning. you can see what is left is a gutted charred mess. these are the offices in the front of the building. management says they are working furiously to open a new location. it started in the warm springs company around 1:45 yesterday afternoon. the flames and smoke were so heavy and the chemicals inside the machine shop were so combustible firefighters had to battle it from the outside. all 80 or so employees got out safely but the building was destroyed. >> when you stop and think about something like this, it's like you know my personally my problems are trivial and i don't care about my problems. this is a whole big company that is really going to have issues. >> reporter: from hearing these employees you real

a nice start approaching the downtown area. it's 5:00 let's go back to dave and pam. >>> at 5:00 we have breaking news coming in from campbell. firefighters just found a body as they rushed to an apartment house fire. janine de la vega is there. she's been there since 4:30 this morning. what is the very latest? >> reporter: the coroner is still here actually in the back of the apartment complex here on kiness drive. fire investigate evers are here on the scene trying to figure out how this fire started and who was the person who died here. at around 1:15 this morning residents at this apartment complex called 911 because they saw smoke coming from the carport at the complex. when they arrived firefighters discovered a storage unit under the carport was on fire. they distinguished it and opened up and found a body. police spoke to the owner of that storage unit and here's what the sergeant had to say. >> we have talked to the person who's belongings are in the storage unit. they are unaware of anything suspicious. they are unaware of anything surrounding the death of the fire. >> rep
